The 7th Annual
Contoocook Carry
Triathlon or Walk – Individual & Team
Athletes, Families, Teens, Kids and
Differently-Abled. Any Age or Walk of Life
Sunday, September 27, 2009
Contoocook, New Hampshire
The Contoocook Carry Triathlon (a gift from the Congoran family) was first held in 2002 to help build the town's Spirit Skateboard Park. This year, our mission is to give 100% of all proceeds directly to Fuel Assistance (through Human Services) to those who might need a little extra help with the coming winter.
Our spirit has always come from outstanding athletes, families, teens trying to outdo their parents or each other, and adventurous people, just testing their mettle. This event happens each year only because of the amazing volunteers from our town: The Rotary Club, our Policemen, our Volunteer Rescue Squad, the Interact Club, the Girl Scouts, The Lions Club, our churches, and many individual volunteers. For more information see: http:www.nhtodo.com/reprint/ccarry.pdf.
The "Carry" begins from Hopkinton High School with a 2 mile run to the bank of the Contoocook River and a beautiful view of Putney Hill. After putting your boat in the water, you'll paddle about 1 1/2 miles to the portage, just above the dam and bridge in the Village of Contoocook. You and your boat will portage (you carry, it rides) about 200 yards to return to the river. At the end of the paddle, you can begin the 14 mile bike through the lightly rolling country back to High School. For more, read the article at http://cs.newhampshire.com/blogs/concord_news/archive/2008/09.aspx
Join us for the fun, help warm some hearts and carry the load. See more at http://www.contoocookcarry.org. You can also read more about the community effort to supply fuel assistance through the Contoocook Carry Fund and the newly created Sean Powers Wood Bank at http://www.woodforwarmth.org.
