SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATIONS ARE OPEN!

June 25-August 10  Each week, the Hopkinton Summer Day Camp offers arts & crafts, sports & games, field trips, swimming activities, and much more!  Some of the 2011 favorites included ‘Fear Factor’, ‘Cup Cake Wars’ ‘Man vs. Food’, and ‘Battle of the Sexes’   There are 2 field trips per week; one specialty trip and one trip to a NH State Park.  Camp operates Monday through Friday, rain or shine out of Harold Martin School.  Activities take place in and around the School, Town Cabins, and at Kimball Pond.  (Additional Info & Registration Form www.hopkinton-nh.gov click ‘Recreation’)

ROCKET SCIENCE CAMP REGISTRATIONS ARE OPEN

Tuesday, August 14th – Friday, August 17th, 9:00AM – 3:00PM 
Children Entering Grades 1-6       
$175pp (Pre-payment Required)  Rocket Science is a blast for any junior rocketeer! In the morning, our space scientists will learn about rocket propulsion by building compressed air rockets and rockets that blast off by chemical reactions! As flight engineers, kids will travel to infinity and beyond while they investigate how rockets get off the ground and soar to the heavens. During the week, kids will build an ultra-cool rocket, and launch on Friday (safety permitting).  In the afternoon, we'll learn all about the science of flight, and investigate how things fly. We'll travel across the solar system and learn about the rocky planets and the gas giants. We'll learn why what goes up must come down. SUMMER TENNIS PROGRAM

Taught by:   Bono Somorrosto   (Former #2 Tennis Player in New England!)
Thursdays, July 12 – August 16th (Aug. 23 = Rain Date)  Youth Age 8 and Up $65pp
(Advanced players or adults with interest, contact the Recreation Dept.)
Beginner Youth Tennis Lessons   5pm – 6pm  For those with an interest but, perhaps, have never played!  Students will be taught things such as basic strokes, game rules, and scoring.

RED CROSS SWIMMING LESSONS - KIMBALL POND

Levels 1-4 of the American Red Cross Swim Program will be offered at Kimball Pond ~Ages 4 and up.  $40/session (non-resident fee is an additional $10) Monday thru Friday. See website for info/registration

Challenger Sports Presents: August 20-24 Half-Day Camp and Full-Day Camp! Ages 5-12 are invited to come learn some new and unique sports! MOVIE IN THE PARK!!

Save the dates!!!  Saturday July 21st and August 18th!  At 7:30 (or sundown) we will be playing one of Hopkinton’s choice movies (voting going on now through May 25th) on the big screen at Houston Park!  Concession stand will be open! Sponsored by the Parks & Recreation Department.  Donations excepted!

KIMBALL POND BEACH

Kimball Pond will open for the season Saturday, June 23rd thru Sunday, August 19 for all Hopkinton & Contoocook residents. The beach will be open daily from 10:00am to 6:00pm. The beach will be closed during bad weather.  Please respect the posted hours/signs and safety guidelines. Lifeguards will be on duty during open hours; however, children should not be left at the beach unattended.

2012 RED SOX TRIP

Save the date! The Red Sox Trip will be on August 1st 2012 and the Red Sox will take on the Detroit Tigers! Bussing and game ticket are included in the price. $65per ticket. The bus will depart the Slusser Senior Center at 4pm, with a 7:10 game-time. Trip tickets are now on sale at the Recreation Dept. (Slusser Senior Center) Pre-payment is required to hold seats. KING ARTHUR FLOUR – TOOKIE COOKIE BAKE-OFF

July 4, 2012, Slusser Senior Center - During the 4th of July Family Fun Day!
Cookies may be dropped off at the senior Center between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon on July 3rd or before 9:00 am. on July Fourth.  All entries must be identified with the entry form and presented in an air-tight container.  Contestants are encouraged to include the recipe with their cookie entry.    Pre-registration Required...Official Rules and Entry Form on-line

4TH OF JULY FAMILY FUN DAY 2012!

If you would like to celebrate Independence Day with some good old fashion fun, the Hopkinton’s 6th annual 4th of July Family Fun Day is the happening place to be! To start the day’s festivities, enter your child in the kiddie parade!  Pre- registration is required at the Gazebo and the parade will begin at 11:30 a.m.  Then, be sure to find a viewing spot to enjoy Hopkinton’s annual Independent’s Day Parade!  This event begins at noon and travels through the center of Contoocook Village.  Immediately following the parade, it’s an easy walk, or drive, to Houston Park where the 4th of July Family Fun Day begins!

This event runs from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.  The Hopkinton Recreation Director and the Recreation Committee volunteers have been working hard all year to lined up another fun-filled afternoon just for you and your family!  Festivities will include pie eating contests, bubble gum blowing contests, root beer chugging contests, live entertainment, and a variety of games for the children!  There is also a silent auction table with some great prizes and several raffles you can enter into.   See You There!

BIKE HOPKINTON EVENT (At the Hopkinton High School)

Enjoy safe cycling from 1-4pm on June 3rd.
Bike Rodeo, 1 to 2:30, perfect for Harold Martin students who are learning bike safety and handling.
Group Rides, leave at 2pm; family rides for learning bikers, varying length rides for adults, history ride and a women’s ride.
BMX Competition, starts at 3pm, 4 categories: HMS, MSS, Middle School, High School
Plenty of music and food, provided by Hopkinton’s own Interact Club and National Honor Society.

TEEN ZUMBA

ADULT ZUMBA

Zumba is a Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness party. It provides a great cardiovascular workout without the boring, monotonous, typical cardio routine.  Participants work out and have fun while they're at it!  Slusser Senior Center, T/Th. 4:00 pm -- More information on-line or JUST STOP IN!!!

ADULT YOGA ON THE BEACH – KIMBALL POND

Transforming Tradition into Therapeutic Exercise and Rehabilitation

TAI CHI CLASSES

New Beginner class on Thursdays 6-7pm!

COMMUNITY SCRAPBOOK & CRAFT CLUB

Held the 2nd Friday and 4th Sunday of EVERY month!!
The scrapbooking/craft group is for everyone from beginners to experts and are hosted by volunteers Liz and Patrice. Bring your pictures to organize and scrapbook or craft projects and join us!
Fridays are from 6:30pm – 10pm and Sundays from 1:30pm – 5pm, Slusser Senior Center.

STAINED GLASS CLUB

Come to the Slusser Senior Center every Thursday from 6:15 - 8:15 pm to work on your stained glass projects or other crafts. If you are a skilled expert in glass making or just learning, do stop by. There will be a mix of levels of skills. Some supplies are available for use, but it is best for you to have your own. This is a social club and not a structured teaching program.
