On Friday December 4^ththe Hopkinton Department along with the Hopkinton PTA will be hosting a night for kids at the Slusser Senior Center. From 5:30pm – 8:30pm, parents can head out on the town for “Starry Starry Weekend” while your children are entertained. The evening will include pizza for dinner, the movie “Polar Express” with popcorn, games and activities. Pre-registration is required by December 2^ndand all children ages 5 – 10 are welcome. On Sunday December 5^ththe Recreation Department will offer a workshop on creating a gingerbread house as part of "Starry Starry Weekend" festivities! The workshop will take place at the Slusser Senior Center starting at 11am and ending at 2pm. All tools necessary to build a gingerbread house, along with hot chocolate and cookies, will be provided. The cost will be $12 per gingerbread house kit. This is a family workshop, so all children need to be accompanied by an adult. Spaces are limited, so call 746-2915 to register. It is time to start thinking how you are going to decorate your home for the holidays. You may be the lucky winner of the 3^rdannual Holiday Lights Contest. Whether you have peaceful yard exhibited, or a massive light spectacle, be sure to enter your home. The top three winners will be chosen by the Recreation Committee on the evening of December 10^th. Show some community holiday spirit and out-decorate your neighbor! Homes must be entered by December 9^thby 5pm. For Hopkinton/Contoocook Residents only. Call 746-2915 to enter your home!

On Saturday December 12^thmake your way to the Slusser Senior Center to visit with Santa and enjoy a wonderful breakfast. The Hopkinton Recreation Committee along with other volunteers will cook up a hot breakfast to include eggs, pancakes, bacon, toast, muffins, hash browns and more while the kids can have a special visit with Santa and partake in craft activities. The event will be held from 8am - 11am and the cost is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. All proceeds will go towards Operation Christmas organized by the Human Services Department and housed at the center. We are also accepting additional gift card donations for the Operation Christmas program. All are welcome!!!

The Hopkinton Recreation Department is happy to announce that for the second year in a row, we have made special arrangements for Santa Claus to call the children of Hopkinton/Contoocook. Parents can pick up “Santa Calling” forms at the Slusser Senior Center, Town Hall, and the Library or download them off the web at www.hopkinton-nh.gov (click recreation). Santa will be calling children ages 3-8 on the evening of December 16^thand all forms need to be submitted by December 15^th. December Special Session Announced!! Whether you’re young or old, scrapbooking keeps your memories alive. These community events are for everyone from beginners to experts. Bring your pictures and scrapbook if you have one. Other materials and tools will be provided. The dates is~Sunday December 13^thfrom 1:30pm – 5pm, held at the Slusser Senior Center. Come to the Slusser Senior Center every Thursday (starting October 8th) from 6 - 8pm to work on your stained glass projects or other crafts. If you are a skilled expert in glass making or just learning, do stop by. There will be a mix of levels of skills and if you are new, we can help you get started. Some supplies are available for use, but it is best for you to have your own. Call 746-2915 for more information.

Every Sunday night from 7-9pm at the Hopkinton High School gymnasium, come and join us for volleyball. All skill levels are welcome and there is no fee. Just show up ready for a great time!

The Hopkinton Recreation Department has secured a limited amount of discount tickets to the Saturday January 30, 2010, 10:30am performance of the Disney on Ice presents “Princess Classics." The show is at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester and features Cinderella, Jasmine, Ariel, Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Mulan and Snow White. The tickets are floor level with a great view and are $23 per person. Open to Hopkinton/Contoocook residents. Call 746-2915 to reserve your spot.

The Hopkinton Recreation Department is sponsoring the American Red Cross Babysitting training course on Monday January 18^th(school closed that day). The class will take place at the Slusser Senior Center from 8am – 4pm. The cost is $50 per person and is open for youth age 11 to 15. All materials will be provided, please bring snacks and lunch as the class will be all day. For more information contact the Recreation Department 746-2915. Taught by the American Red Cross this class should be a part of everyone’s lives. Learn what to do in a medical emergency and how to properly take care of an injured person. The class is Tuesday January 19^thfrom 6pm – 10pm at the Slusser senior Center. Cost is $45 per person. Call 746-2915 to sign up. Spaces are limited.

This class is for all future parents and new parents of infants and small children. The focus will be infant/child CPR and AED. This is a four hour American Red Cross certification class that will take place January 26^thfrom 6pm – 10pm at the Slusser Senior Center. Cost is $45 per person. Call 746-2915 to sign up. The Hopkinton Recreation Department is sponsoring the Safe on My Own class on Monday February 3^rd from 1pm – 3:30pm (early release school day). The course will be held at the Library Community Room and will provide youth ages 8-11 years old with necessary knowledge and skills to safely stay at home alone and what to do in emergency situations. This class taught by the American Red Cross is a full certification class and incorporates all CPR and first aid. There are two choices for classes and you must be able to attend the full class.
