Where do the Children Play?
The real question is where do your children play? Do you remember a time when you would come from school and you could not wait to finish your chores and homework so you could go outside and play with friends? Today, we are in a world of technology where you can’t live without a cell phone, TV and computer. Our children rush home from school to catch their favorite TV show, or to log on to the computer and check their email. They are on their cell phones with their friends trying to figure out what movie to go see or who will host the next sleepover. Do they talk about going down to the local park to play ball, or heading to the brook to toss stones, or even hop on their bike to ride around the neighborhood?
Please join the Hopkinton Recreation Department and the Little Nature Museum for an evening of eye-opening wonder. We will be presenting a PBS documentary showing the importance of a healthy environment for your children called “Where do the Children Play?" This one-hour documentary will be shown upstairs in Columbia Hall on May 17 at 6:30pm. To compliment the movie, there will be a special guest speaker Marilyn Wyzga, Wildlife Educator with the NH Fish and Game and coordinator for the NH Children in Nature Coalition. During the program, the Little Nature Museum will host an array of activities downstairs that will explore the wonders of nature for children aged 5-12 years.
The event is for anyone who would like to learn why outdoor play is disappearing from our society. There will be a question and answer period, as well some information where you can get outdoors in Hopkinton, your backyard.
