Hopkinton Municipal Technical Assistance Grant (MTAG)
In late 2018, Hopkinton’s Economic Development Committee (EDC) applied for Municipal Technical Assistance Grant (MTAG) from PlanNH. The overall goal of the MTAG is to support a range of relevant choices for where multiple generations of residents can live according to their wants and needs. Specifically, the grant money will be used to:
- gather opinions and viewpoints from citizens regarding choices for home location, design, and/or price-point;
- review current zoning and regulations related to home location, design, and/or price-point; and
- possibly re-write existing regulations to permit a wider range of choices.
The EDC initially hoped the grant could look at diversifying types of places to live in several locations in town, but the grant committee advised them to focus on one particular area. This area is Hart’s Corner (the intersection of Routes 202/9 and Route 127/Maple Street). In the spring of 2019, the MTAG Steering Committee conducted interviews with residents, officials, and business-owners to gather their opinions about development priorities - in Hopkinton generally, specifically at Hart’s Corner, and specifically about residential development. With help from UNH Cooperative Extension, the information gathered will be compiled into a report, which will help guide town boards and staff as they make recommendations for possible changes in land use regulations.
