The CEDC typically meets the first Wednesday of the month at 5:30 in Town Hall. Occasionally, we will meet at a different location – ideally because we’re meeting at a local business, or occasionally because there is a conflict at Town Hall. Committee members need not be a businessperson or expert in community or economic development – just have an interest and commitment to the Town and the Committee’s Mission, Vision, and Values, as outlined below.

Mission

The Community and Economic Development Committee empowers the Town’s economic potential by (1) supporting and attracting business, (2) enhancing quality of life, and (3) broadening the Town’s tax base.

Vision

A vibrant, interconnected Hopkinton that supports and attracts businesses, enjoys a diverse tax base, invests in infrastructure, and provides a range of housing, including viable options for the town’s workforce. The Town’s economy, services, and resources contribute to residents’ high quality of life and continue to make Hopkinton a desirable place to live, work, and play.

Values

The Community and Economic Development Committee values …
  • Support Growth: the assessment and reduction of unnecessary barriers to entry, expansion, and success; a productive economy that builds wealth by supporting current businesses and keeping dollars circulating locally.
  • Thoughtful Development: economic growth balanced with preservation of open space, natural resources, and historic resources; plentiful and accessible outdoor recreation opportunities (non-motorized and motorized).
  • Infrastructure Investment: improved parking, bikeways, and walkways that support businesses and activities; continued development of critical utilities for businesses.
  • Regulatory Clarity: clear and concise regulations that support thoughtful development and growth.
  • Accessibility: vibrant and thriving commercial districts with well-maintained and accessible multi-modal infrastructure, which accommodates all users.
  • Diversified Tax Base: a strong and broad non-residential property tax base
